Will insurance cover GLP-1 for weight loss?
Some commercial plans cover Wegovy or Zepbound when BMI is ≥30, or ≥27 with and comorbidity (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, fatty liver). Medicare currently does not cover GLP-1 for weight loss alone. Check your formulary.
Why is compounded GLP-1 cheaper than branded?
Compounding pharmacies mix the active ingredient in-house, bypassing branded supply costs. The FDA flagged quality concerns in 2024-2025; brands like Form Health and Knownwell explicitly do not prescribe compounded for safety reasons.
Can I use HSA/FSA for cash-pay GLP-1?
Yes if prescribed by and licensed clinician for and documented condition (obesity, type 2 diabetes). Cosmetic-only use is not HSA-eligible.
