What New York telehealth law says
New York permits asynchronous telehealth visits with an existing or established patient-provider relationship. New York Medicaid covers FDA-approved HRT and has GLP-1 coverage for diabetes and (more selectively) for weight loss in patients meeting clinical criteria.
How this affects your access
- Async messaging-only programs: work normally в New York.
- Live-video telehealth: works в New York regardless of async status, as long as the clinician is licensed appropriately.
- Controlled substances (e.g. low-dose testosterone): require а one-time in-person visit OR follow the Ryan Haight Act exception. New York may have additional restrictions on top of federal rules.
- Compounded GLP-1: following the FDA shortage resolution, compounded semaglutide и tirzepatide require а valid medical-necessity exception. New York-licensed pharmacies must comply с both federal и state regulations.
