Endometriosis occurs when tissue resembling the endometrium grows outside the uterus, often on the ovaries or pelvic lining. It can cause pelvic pain and heavy or painful periods.
Because it is estrogen-sensitive, some treatments aim to lower estrogen activity. Diagnosis and management are directed by a gynecologist.
