Follicular phase

The first half of the menstrual cycle, when a follicle matures and estrogen rises.

The follicular phase is the part of the menstrual cycle from the start of menstruation until ovulation. During it, FSH stimulates a follicle to mature and estrogen levels climb.

It ends with the LH surge that triggers ovulation and gives way to the luteal phase.

The release of a mature egg from the ovary, usually around the middle of the menstrual cycle.

The primary and most potent estrogen produced by the ovaries during the reproductive years.
