Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone, which can cause fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, and menstrual changes.

Because these symptoms overlap with perimenopause, thyroid function (TSH) is often checked as part of an evaluation.
