Irregular & heavy periods: Diagnosis & treatment

Evidence-based options for treating irregular & heavy periods — medications, lifestyle, and clinical pathways.

Treatment options

Hormonal IUDs (especially Mirena) often manage heavy perimenopause bleeding well and provide progesterone protection. Tranexamic acid is non-hormonal and effective. Endometrial ablation is an option for some. For irregular cycles without heavy bleeding, treatment is often just reassurance and tracking.

Informational only. Final treatment decisions require a licensed clinician who knows your full medical history.
