A menstrual cycle in which the ovary does not release an egg.
Also known as: anovulatory cycles
Anovulation is a cycle in which ovulation does not occur. Frequent anovulation causes irregular or absent periods and is a common reason for menstrual disturbance in PCOS.
Without ovulation the ovary does not produce its usual post-ovulation progesterone, which can affect the uterine lining over time.
