Estrone

A weaker estrogen that becomes the predominant circulating estrogen after menopause.

Also known as: E1

Estrone (E1) is a less potent estrogen. After menopause, when ovarian estradiol production drops, estrone made in fat and other peripheral tissues becomes the main estrogen in the body.

Estrone and estradiol can be converted into each other, and both belong to the broader estrogen family measured on hormone panels.
